Web3D 2010 ART Will Focus On Virtual Art

Web3D Consortium this year is having more interest in the artistic side of building 3D worlds, something that many of us have asked many times. This year's conference will showcase works of artistic 3D web building.

The Web3D Consortium is a member-funded industry consortium committed to the creation and deployment of open, royalty-free standards that enable the communication of real-time 3D across applications, networks, and XML web services. The Consortium works closely with the ISO, MPEG and W3C standardization bodies to maximize market opportunities for its membership.
Web3D Consortium is behind 3D web standards like VRML and X3D.

Web3D 2010 also supports a yearly event that uses to work closely with the also famous SIGGRAPH conference. a major event which unites researchers, developers, entrepreneurs, experimenters, artists and content creators in a dynamic learning environment. Attendees share and explore methods of using, enhancing and creating new 3D Web and Multimedia technologies such as X3D, VRML, Collada, MPEG family, U3D, Java3D and other technologies.

The Web3D 2010 Conference will present the Web3D ART Exhibition, that is composed of two major events:

Memories of a Distant Future: Web3D Art & Design 1995-2010
This is an exhibition that showcases the works of five designers in the Web3D scene, thinking in 3D worlds as art, in retrospective from 1995 to 2010.
They are: Andy Best, Cristiano Bianchi, John Kilma, Adam Nash, and the team called "fabric | ch" (Christian Babski, Stéphane Carion, Christophe Guignard & Patrick Keller).

Virtual Storied Worlds and Poetic Spaces
This is for now a call for creative student Web3D art. You have until 1st of June to submit yours, so this is the last week, hurry up.
The theme of poetry is required, but open to interpretation.
Students, recent graduates, or those preparing to enter college are encouraged to submit work. (Working professionals and commercial entities are not)
Any interactive 3D technology is acceptable for consideration. Online, web3D works preferred.
General requirements will include the student’s name, school, text of the poem, a url to a videoclip (youtube is acceptable) and a url for the work (online or download).
Further Information and Questions: steve.guynup [at] gmail [dot] com
In the website they say that a submission form will be available soon, but I recommend you to send your info to the email of Steve Guynup because at this date the form is not yeat available, and there's only 1 week left.

In further articles I will cover the topic of virtual art more deeply, as it seems it is having a strong re-emergence. Stay tuned.
