Upcoming Review: “Blender 2.49 Scripting”

blender249scripting_m A new review of a book by Packt Publishing is coming, again focused on the popular open source modeling and rendering package Blender 3D.

In previous book reviews we learned with Alan Brito how to model architecture, make photorealistic renders with YafaRay, and making fabulous machines with this suite, and also learned about the Blender Game Engine.

In this new book, named "Blender 2.49 Scripting", Michel J. Anders will tell us how to use the Python programming language to build scripts that can automate and extend the features of Blender.

It provides source code that can be downloaded from Packt Publishing's site, and will tell you about how to use scripting for things like:

  • Create simple objects and fully riged ones with vertex groups and materials
  • Extend Blender's built-in editor
  • Implement a simple web server inside Blender to serve rendered images.
  • Explore built-in modules and add an object to a Blender scene
  • Create configurable mesh objects and modify them
  • Develop custom shaders and slope-dependent materials
  • Animate objects with complex constraints and relations and automate rendering
  • Extend Blender's image manipulation
  • Create simple and effective user interfaces

Blender 2.49 Scripting” will just show you how you can use Python to boost Blender 3D's capabilities, and automate tasks to make your modeler and animator life easier.
The book is aimed to modelers with some slight knowledge of Python.

You can buy the book at this link, and also download a sample chapter (tutorial) titled "Acting on Frame Changes" for free by clicking on the "Sample Chapter" link.
