ARToolKit is a software library for building Augmented Reality (AR) applications.
Augmented Reality is getting into our lives as Wii consoles and other gadgets, and may be the future of software developments.
In AR applications, the virtual and the real get mixed, and the user experiments virtual entities as real, seeing and sensing things that are computer-generated.
AR ToolKit is available for SGI IRIX, Linux, MacOS and Windows, and is distributed with complete source code.
In the projects page, you can check what others did with ARToolKit.
The license is GPL. There is a strange notice in their website about commercial applications of ARToolKit. Strange because GPL allows commercial use, so I suppose that they mean that you must ask for another licensing if you're going to modify or merge the software with your own, that is when the problems with GPL arise.
