Pirate Copies Finder Soft (Read more...)

The creator of Xplorer2, a fantastic file explorer with double panel and lots of customizing options, has developed a way to find illegal copies of your files in file sharing networks.

The usual process to eliminate pirate copies of your software is to report the fact to the file sharing service using a DMCA complaint, asking them to take it down. The problem is to find these copies.

He has developed a crack tracker. Instead of googling here and there trying to find illegal downloads of your software, movie, music album, or whatever, you can use this free tool to search for keywords. Crack tracker will scour popular crack search engines.

Currently it can work with these filehosting sites: rapidshare.com, depositfiles.com, uploading.com, mediafire.com, megaupload.com, hotfile.com, easy-share.com, filefactory.com, 4shared.com, badongo.com and letitbit.net.

Download crack tracker (290 kb, alpha version!): http://www.zabkat.com/craktrak.zip

Using the program is very simple:

• Start the program and search for a keyword (e.g. your program's name)
• Wait until the search is finished and you get a list of confirmed download locations
• Inspect the list to ensure that the downloads are yours (check the name and size)
• Remove all irrelevant results pressing <DEL>
• Sort the results by provider clicking on the URL header
• Press <Ctrl+C> to copy out the results
• Send an email to each filehosting site to delist their links

Read the complete description of the program here: http://www.zabkat.com/blog/14Mar09-crack-tracker.htm

File sharing sites have taken the place of pirate P2P networks and software. Maybe we see some solution to this situation in a near future, because the identity of the people that upload these files can be easily tracked.

In addition, it is obvious, as the author states, that file sharing services get a millionaire benefit from piracy, because pirated files are downloaded by many, and they get impressions for they ads and revenue this way, while legal, legitimate file sharing represents little revenue and little traffic.

Deep MatrixIP9: Client And Server For Virtual Worlds (Read more...)

Russ Kinter has launched what is called the New Deep MatrixIP9 Multi-user System, a new multi-user server and client for VRML.

Deep MatrixIP9 is an open-source multi-user client/server system for vrml/x3d formats and currently works specifically for the 3D viewer Instant Player: http://www.instantreality.org

Gerhard Reitmayr and Geometrek developed the original Deep Matrix client applet and server. With the pass of time, it became outdated, and now, Russ Kinter has improved the original project to work with the standard Java virtual machine and Instant Player.

The main features of Deep MatrixIP9 include:

• Server based persistent storage for shared events.

• Lock type shared events so only one user at a time can control a particular event.

• Text string delivery from the Java GUI to the world for commands or messages.

• Gives both Instant Player and FreeWRL a capability to play mp3 files.

• Revamp of Java GUI to give make navigation user-friendly.

• Certain number of administrator features allow the admin to add/remove
users/objects/worlds to the server. These can only be accessed through a password.

• Allows an end user the ability to attempt to put their own world on the server without any prior coding.

• Allow a user to privatize/limit access to their world, so only names designated by that user have access.

• A demo of back-pack objects ala' blaxxun.

• Controlling both the world collision and headlight status of the Java GUI.

These features were developed and tested on a Windows XP and an IMac G5 PowerPc.All development and testing was done on Windows XP, Mac OS X Tiger, Fedora 11 and Ubuntu 9.04 operating systems. The functionality on Windows7, Vista, Leopard and other Linux systems is currently unknown
The developer welcomes any testing in your operating system, specially if you run a Linux distro.

Deep MatrixIP9 makes possible to run your own VRML multi user server, and also connect to those existing, or upload your virtual world to the public Deem Matrix server.

System requirements, features, a Quick Start guide as well as general documentation can be found here:

What Is Semantic Copyright (Read more...)

Semantic Copyright is a project to protect the author's work from abuse (let it be copyright or not), and also provide instant information for those who want to know the author and terms of use of anything on the Internet.

The platform Semantic Copyright is formed by public institutions, companies and individuals for the purpose of promoting the protection and dissemination of safe contents on the Internet, legally and with guarantees for both creators and rightsholders, and users of intellectual property works circulating on the Internet.

In this system, files will be identified by their hash code (long alfanumerical code that identifies files and software applications) or by identification patterns (images, music), and maybe by other means, without having to use any meta data (tags added to a file that may be deleted easily).

This will help authors to be protected against pirates and content thieves, and also will protect users against using copyrighted content without knowing it, or abusing a license.

There are many good consequences we may imagine:

• Software may identify and show the author of Creative Commons material without having to manually lin to the source, so the license will be always respected and it's more comfortable for those who use it.

• When you see a painting or image that you like, you will be able to know the authors and search for their home page on the Internet.

• It will be easier to track piracy, and copyright infringement complaints will be automatically solved.

• Sites like Rapidshare and others that often host pirate files will have no excuse to follow the law, because the legality of a file may be easily checked on upload.

This is leading us towards a future in which freedom and respect for author's right, both in copyright and copyleft licenses will be respected. Now we see that we don't need new laws but simply new technology improvements.
